Wouldn’t it be great to be as excited about anything as the 19th century was about steam? We’ve tried before to itemize just a few of the things done by steam power back in mid-19th century Albany. There was steam printing and steam planing, steam soap and steam candy. Even steam crackers. And, here, steam carpet beating. “Carpets of all kinds beat by Machinery at a few moments notice, and thoroughly cleansed without the least injury to the fabric.”
