Even in the days of the general store, it’s hard to imagine a store more general than that of W.J. and R.H. Scott, manufacturers and dealers in
Military, Fire Department,
Base Ball,
Theatrical and Society Goods,
Door and Pew Plates,
Fire Arms, Fishing Tackle,
Dog Collars,
Silver Letters, Figures and Ornaments,
Stencil Plates,
Stamps and Ink for Marking Clothing.
Also, Agents For
Kehoe’s Clubs and Book,
Handicap Dumb Bells, and
Dupont Power Company,
For Albany and Vicinity.
At 60 State Street, their store would be hard to miss, being at the sign of the “Big Gun and Pistol, and Gilt Cartridge.” And in case you needed your sword repaired on short notice, they were your men. They apparently manufactured some of their own guns.
(Kehoe’s clubs were the exercise devices known as “indian clubs.” )
