Those wishing to wash the gray away in 1869 might have turned to Blasie’s Superior Instantaneous Hair Dye, available in black or brown and positively the best in use. It was a two part process (but the first part could be applied without having to wash your hair or whiskers!). It was sold by all druggists, and the company’s “principal depot” was at 23 Hudson Street (probably Avenue) in Albany, down near the market. William Blasie was a hair dresser whose shop was at 389 Broadway, where he also sold his hair dye.
Some collectors apparently still have bottles for both No. 1 and No. 2.
